What to do When the Candle Ends

It is good to let go of the candle when it is done.  It is an expression of faith.  When the candle finishes, kiss the glass and thank whatever higher force helped you achieve your goal.  Place some offering (coins, petals, or another token of your appreciation) in the bottom of the glass.  Place it in a separate bag from your garbage and put it in a recycling bin.  Although it is spiritually correct to return a spell or magical request to living water or the earth, waxes and our magical remnants are pollution.  Most candles are petroleum products.  (If you think about it, our dumping is in the ocean or landfills.  So your candle does end up returning to the earth or water anyway.  But, it's better to recycle it.)  Please choose the most ecologically kind way to dispose of your candles!

Another approach for marking the end of your candle is breaking the glass, signifying a letting go and the end of the spell.  For those of us who are accident prone and concerned about the trash handlers, please proceed with care.  On the other hand, it could not be more perfect for some purposes.  Please cover your eyes and hands.  Also package the remains so you don't rip up a sanitation worker.
