Taking Up the Runes Class with Arielle Lokadóttir
Taking Up the Runes with Arielle Lokadóttir
For centuries the runes have mystified scholars. The runic alphabet was used as a form of writing in Scandinavia but was also believed to possess magical properties. We get our first glimpse of their power in the text The Poetic Edda, where the Norse god Odin discusses how he sacrificed himself for the knowledge of the runes and describes them as being carved by holy gods. The runes are used for divination, spells, and Icelandic staves for everything from prosperity to safe travels, love, health, and cursing.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the Elder Futhark, the oldest runic alphabet which is constructed of 24 letters. We will explore its history, as well as symbolism, phonetics, and how to work with them as magical sigils. This workshop is ideal for someone new to the runes or who desires to deepen their understanding of them.
Arielle Lokadóttir is a practicing spirit worker, author, and rune witch whose beliefs are rooted in nature and the Northern traditions. Her fascination with the occult has taken her overseas to study Icelandic magic, rune lore, and sigil crafting in Iceland.
